This area starts at the intersection of South Airport Rd. and US 31 South in Garfield Township. The anchors here are the area’s largest indoor mall, The Grand Traverse Mall. This intersection handles nearly 35,000 car trips daily and ranks as one of the two busiest in all Northern MI.

Heading East South Airport becomes the main East-West corridor and traverses over the Boardman River and past the Cherry Capital Airport bypassing downtown Traverse City. Numerous big box stores and service businesses populate the corridor as traffic builds to the areas busiest intersection at Garfield Rd. and South Airport (40,000+ car trips daily).

Several development parcels exist along this stretch with the largest being the Cherryland Mall (Traverse City’s original indoor mall).

The area south of S. Airport starting at the intersection with Cass Street is almost exclusively large distribution or corporate service businesses running East along the Boardman River and connecting to Keystone Rd. as you head South out of Traverse City.
